Welcome to Fly Fish Islay
The Isle of Islay is blessed with breathtaking scenery and spectacular wildlife and it will be our pleasure to ensure that you have a great experience in these peaceful and relaxing settings.
Fly Fish Islay is based in Bowmore, the main village on the Island and is perched right on the shores of Loch Indaal. Along with the distillery, Bowmore is known for its whitewashed houses, tiny, stone-built harbour and pier, and the iconic Bowmore Round Church, which sits at the top of Main Street, commanding impressive views over the village, Loch Indaal and beyond.
There are numerous fresh water lochs on Islay in which wild brown trout can be caught. The main lochs are Gorm, Skerrols and Finlaggan and these fish well throughout the season. Brown trout fishing is available from the 15th of March - 6th of October and River fishing is available from the 25th of February - 31st of October.
When and wherever you decide to go, our job is to make sure that you have a fantastic time, assisting you with both tuition and knowledge and always being ready with the landing net and camera. Tight Lines !
John McCallum
John is the director of Fly Fish Islay and is dedicated to providing all of his clients with the best possible service. He is a current Scotland Internationalist and has represented his country in several World Championships. He was also Scottish Rivers Champion in 1994 and Commonwealth Champion in New Zealand in 2008. John brings a wealth of knowledge and through his experience, he can teach you techniques that will increase your catch rate and pleasure of fishing.
Brown Trout
A lovely Brownie from Loch Gorm, which is one of the best loch's on Islay for Trout Fishing, but the same quality of fish can be found in many other Lochs on Islay.
Some of the other main Loch's are Loch Ballygrant, Skerrols, Finlaggan, Kinnabus, Lossit and Ardnahoe to name but a few.

Nice morning today on Gorm with two lovely couples from America with their first Brown Trout. The happy group went fly fishing with John, two of which were complete novices, had 8 fish between them before lunchtime - a good mornings work !
Tasmanian Devil !
A great day on Gorm with Chris from Tasmania. He had 72 beautiful wild brown trout.
Needless to say his grin was as big as some of the fish he caught :D
